African Space Agency set to be officially inaugurated in 2025

The African Union Commission (AUC) will officially launch the African Space Agency (AfSA) at the 2025 NewSpace Africa Conference, set to be held at Egypt Space City in Cairo, Egypt. This inauguration will position AfSA as the central organization for fostering collaboration on space initiatives throughout the continent.
Following its launch, AfSA will serve as the main liaison for Africa’s partnerships with Europe and other international entities. A key goal, as stated in the African Space Agency Act, is to advance space missions across Africa, ensuring optimal access to data, information, services, and products derived from space.
Once fully integrated into national, regional, and continental programs, AfSA will play a vital role in reducing duplication and inefficiencies within the African space ecosystem. As the official authority responsible for overseeing and coordinating these initiatives, it will also implement the African Space Policy and Strategy, working towards the continent’s space-related objectives.
The establishment of AfSA comes after years of careful planning, negotiations, and financial considerations.
